Composer and multi-instrumentalist Cody Westheimer is a magna cum laude graduate of the music composition program at USC's Thornton School of Music.  At just 31 years of age Westheimer's music has been featured in over two dozen feature films, 4 major video games, network and cable television series and countless other commercial spots, trailers, and shorts.

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Cody's musical career started at age 8, studying piano and brass instruments.  Today he primarily composes on keyboards, but is known to tap into his interesting collection of instruments from time to time. Not only proficient in Western instruments, he began studying the Japanese shakuhachi (bamboo flute) in 1999. A unique element in Westheimer's music is his seamless blend of World sounds and space with Western harmony and counterpoint. His recent work in independent cinema has reacquainted him with his love for the guitar, prompting an exploration in the "Post Rock Ambient" style.

A trained concert music composer, his recent commission, "The Remarkable Farkle McBride," based on the John Lithgow book was premiered by theSanta Barbara Symphony.  He was awarded the ASCAP Morton Gould Award for his orchestral work, "Bamboo Leaves." In 2001 he was selected as a participant for the prestigious ASCAP Filmscoring Workshop. And in 2004 he was chosen as a finalist for the Young Film Composer's Competition, sponsored by Turner Classic Movies.  His orchestral score to the animated film "SMILE" was awarded Double Gold Medals at the Park City Film Music Festival.

Comfortable writing and producing music in nearly every style imaginable, Westheimer's versatility has proven invaluable throughout his career.  New West Studios is a comprehensive composing, recording and mixing facility that he founded and runs with his wife, Julia Newmann.
